Shockwave/Soundwave Therapy (Piezowave 2)

shockwave therapy

What is it?

Piezowave shockwave therapy (SKW) is a non-invasive treatment that uses focused sound waves to stimulate the body's natural
healing processes.
It can be used to treat various musculoskeletal conditions. The therapy is generally considered safe and effective,
with minimal side effects.

How does it work?

The Piezowave device emits sound waves that are focused onto the affected area. These sound waves create microscopic bubbles in
the tissue, which then collapse, generating shockwaves. These shockwaves stimulate the body's natural healing processes, such as increased blood flow and collagen production. The treatment can help reduce pain, inflammation, promote tissue regeneration, release tight muscles, increase blood flow to deliver nutrients and oxygen to injured areas, and improve range of motion by reducing restrictions and scar tissue.

List of some common conditions treated with SKW:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Frozen shoulder or Adhesive capsulitis
  • Calcifying tendinopathy of shoulder and other joints
  • Tennis elbow and Golfer’s elbow
  • Jumper's knee or patellar tendonitis
  • Arthritis: Joint pain and stiffness
  • Tendonitis: Inflammation of the tendons
  • Muscle strains: Injuries to muscles.
  • Ligament sprains: Injuries to ligaments
  • Spinal pain and tightness, including range of motion restrictions
  • Myofascial syndrome
  • Trigger point treatment
  • Stress fracture

What to expect during a treatment:

  • A gel is applied to the skin over the affected area.
  • The Piezowave handpiece is placed against the skin and sound waves are emitted.
  • The therapist may adjust the intensity and depth of the sound waves based on the individual's needs and the condition being treated.
  • The treatment typically lasts 15-30 minutes depending on treatment area.
